These days, film festivals are a dime a dozen. Whether you're a fan of horror or indie, international or local, there's a film festival for you.
With one major exception.
If you're a lady who loves DIRTY DANCING, or a woman who's seen SIXTEEN CANDLES a thousand times, or a guy who can't stop quoting CLUELESS, you're still in search of a festival that meets your movie-loving needs.
Forever Fest captures the giddy excitement of discovering your favorite movie with your best friends beside you. It's a reminder of your crush on that unbelievably hunky actor, because no matter how much time has passed, you're still totally in love with him. It's an opportunity to quote the best lines of your most cherished films along with an audience who also spent their adolescence memorizing them. Forever Fest is a chance to party like it's Prom Night, and this time, we'll all be crowned queen.
We'll be announcing our 2014 date soon.
In 2008, Forever Fest co-founder Sarah Pitre was approached by the Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas to create a monthly film series geared towards women which became known as Girlie Night. From '80s classics like SIXTEEN CANDLES to '90s gems like 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, this series offers women the chance to celebrate their favorite movies along with other ecstatic fans. Girlie Night isn't just a screening, it's a community, and shows are typically packed with gal pals sipping on drinks and enjoying a night out.
A year after founding Girlie Night, Pitre launched ForeverYoungAdult.com [FYA], an online community for adults who enjoy young adult literature, television and film. The site, which features book reviews, movie drinking games, TV recaps and more, attracted fans of TWILIGHT, THE HUNGER GAMES and other YA hits, and FYA is now a thriving hub for news and reviews.
Like a puzzle of magic, these pieces were ready to reunite on the day that Brandy Fons, founder and owner of Fons PR, approached Sarah PItre with the idea to create a female-focused film festival.
Brandy and her team oversee the publicity for Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas as well as their family of companies: Fantastic Fest, Mondo, Drafthouse Films, Midnight Cowboy and Badass Digest. Brandy grew up on a steady diet of John Hughes, and PRETTY IN PINK remains her all time favorite movie. Through her work in the Austin festival scene, celebrating a diverse spectrum of interests in film, gaming and TV, she realized there wasn't a festival opportunity to celebrate the chick flicks she cherished. And thus, Forever Fest was born.
